"Curse the Heavens" was born from an old wooden and wrought iron children's desk I found on Craigslist for $50.
I took it apart and used the seat back, a slightly curved old beautiful piece of wood with rounded edges and a real history to it's surface. The wood was a perfect canvas for this piece. It's scratches and dings told a story of it's existence in the world and how it has endured... a main theme running through the Superhero Series. I love this piece because of how vulnerable Cyclops is in this moment of anger and pain as he looks to the universe and demands to know "why". Somehow it reminds me that I'm alive and I'm not alone in my struggle.
It's amazing to me a technology exists that can capture all the variations in color, the scratches and history of the wood... all the essence of the original work on a single piece of paper. I feel it's important to offer something for under $100 because I know how important having art is in my life... and most people (like myself) just don't have thousands of dollars in their art budget. These prints are special and collectable as there will only be fifteen made. I've priced them as low as I can and made them a standard size (12 x 18in) so framing isn't a big additional cost. My hope is that this print ends up on your wall and becomes a part of your life. I hope it makes you feel alive and reminds you that you're not alone! -- See the original piece
